Governmental affairs

The governmental affairs unit at Harleysville Insurance seeks to influence the legal and regulatory environment in which Harleysville Insurance operates in order to provide better, and more competitive insurance products and services to its insureds. By creating a better regulatory system, Harleysville insureds, employees, and stock holders will benefit.

Using the knowledge and working with various departments within the corporation, Harleysville’s governmental affairs counsel communicates with state regulators and state and federal legislators to articulate and advocate the corporation’s position on pending and proposed legislation.

Consistent with its mission to promote the interests of Harleysville Insurance, the governmental affairs unit oversees HIPAC and HIPAC-Fed, the company's state and federal political action committees that support candidates and campaigns dedicated to the preservation of America’s free enterprise system.

By conducting research and tracking state and federal legislation impacting corporations and the insurance industry, Harleysville’s governmental affairs unit advises and counsels staff regarding federal and state laws and regulations to further corporate compliance and to show we are good corporate citizens.

The governmental affairs unit is managed by Maria Kelly. If you have questions or comments, contact Maria at 215.256.5022, or via e-mail.
